Barbara Mahar Obituary

Barbara M. (Schotte) Mahar, 87, of Log Plain Rd., passed away on April 12, 2024 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

A life-long resident of Greenfield, Barbara was born on January 12, 1937 the daughter of William and Mae (Baker) Schotte. After graduating from high school Barbara started her career with Greenfield Tap & Die as a data processor and clerk. She retired in 1975 after 20 years with the company.

On August 23, 1975 she was married to Robert A. Mahar, together for over 48 years,

She was a former member of the Rainbow Girls affiliated with the local Lodge of Masons, leader of Girl Scouts Pack 24, she also enjoyed cooking and reading.

She was a member of the former First Congregational Church of Greenfield for over 50 years prior to its closing. She volunteered much of her time and support to the church.

Survivors include her loving husband Robert, son Jason R. Mahar and his partner Julie Holhut of Greenfield, daughter Candace M. Manning and her husband Evan of Gill, MA, a brother William Schotte of Versailles, MO, grandchildren Taylor and Dylan Mahar, and nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour will be held Wed, Apr. 17 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Committal prayers will follow in Green River Cemetery.
